Our operations in themselves are not hazardous to the environment; however, we are well aware that our travel, electrical energy use, use of office materials, etc., still exert an impact. Consequently, we feel it is important that we are not only committed to conserving the environment but also take practical responsibility and make an effort to reduce our impact on it.
Climate compensation
One practical example of Betsson’s commitment to the environment is the climate compensation it pays for company air travel. In 2009, Betsson purchased emission rights the equivalent of 502 tons of carbon dioxide via the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation. To provide extra support for the work of this organisation, Betsson also paid an additional SEK 60 per ton. With offices in Stockholm, Kiev and Malta, air travel is an unavoidable part of our operations. The climate compensation we undertake covers the consequences of our air travel; however, within Betsson we have also chosen to attempt to reduce the volume of such travel. Video conferences and telephone meetings have become a natural part of our working day at Betsson. In our office in Malta, we are developing and testing new technology aimed at reducing the necessity of climate control and decreasing energy use.
Working against drugs and sex trade
Betsson supports the Swedish National Association for a Drug-free Society (RNS) that works preventatively against drugs. We also support ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking in Children for Sexual Purposes). In addition, we sponsor “Min stora dag” (an organisation that helps critically ill children) and the Red Cross rescue operations after the earthquake in Haiti. It is very clear to us that we must do what we can so children do not suffer.
